A note from Eleri.......

 

Hello! My name is Eleri and I'm the founder of Eleri Haf Designs. I'm 26 and divide my time between West Wales and South Yorkshire. I offer unique, hand lettered greeting cards, prints and wedding stationery.

Eleri Haf Designs was born from a determination to overcome adversity and a passion for creating.

It all began in late 2011 when I was 21 and had been suffering from a severe neuro-immune disease since I was 15. I was itching to make a difference in the world and to let out my creative side but had very limited use of my arms and hands. I had to find a way of creating without using my limbs. I eventually came up with the idea of reproducing some greeting card designs that I had painted before I became too ill. All I could do was write my name to use on my logo, so I enlisted the help of my family and friends to print the reproductions of the greeting cards. I then sold them and donated some of the profits to a charity doing biomedical research into my illness. I carried on doing this for a couple of years and kept planning and designing new products in my head.

As soon as I was able to begin using my hands again, I did. It started with just sticking a button onto a tag, or painting one brush stroke a day. In 2014, I stood up and walked for the first time in eight and a half years.

As my health continued to improve, I decided that I wanted to learn the art of hand lettering. I taught myself modern calligraphy and watercolour painting which are now what I use in almost all of my designs. I use traditional tools such as dip pens, Sumi ink, watercolour paints, twine and hand dyed ribbons. All of my orders are packaged beautifully and with care. In this world full of screens and mass production, I find comfort in simple pen and paper. I want to help keep the art of handwriting and physical correspondence alive.
